Odor: Floral, Rose, Berry; cherry; grapefruit; citrus; walnut
Suggested Uses: Apricot, Bakery, Cherry, Chocolate, Hard Fruits, Soft Fruits, Tea, Tobacco. It is used in soap, perfume, cosmetics and flavorBenzyl alcohol is an organic compound with the formula C6H5CH2OH. The benzyl group is often abbreviated "Bn", thus benzyl alcohol is denoted as BnOH. Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid with a mild pleasant aromatic odor. It is a useful solvent due to its polarity, low toxicity, and low vapor pressure. Benzyl alcohol is partially soluble in water (4 g/100 mL) and completely miscible in alcohols and diethyl ether.
Benzyl alcohol is produced naturally by many plants and is commonly found in fruits and teas. It is also found in a variety of essential oils including jasmine, hyacinth, and ylang-ylang.
Benzyl alcohol is produced naturally by many plants and is commonly found in fruits and teas. It is also found in a variety of essential oils including jasmine, hyacinth, and ylang-ylang.
Benzyl alcohol is used as a general solvent for inks, paints, lacquers, and epoxy resin coatings. It is also a precursor to a variety of esters, used in the soap, perfume, and flavor industries. It is often added to intravenous medication solutions as a preservative due to its bacteriostatic and antipruritic properties. It is also used as a photographic developer.
Benzyl alcohol has been used as a dielectric solvent for the dielectrophoretic reconfiguration of nanowires.
Benzyl alcohol is used as a bacteriostatic preservative at low concentration in intravenous medications and in other medications. The use of benzyl alcohol as a 5% solution has been approved by the U.S. FDA in the treatment of head lice in children older than 6 months and in adults.Benzyl Alcohol SDS MSDS Sheet, Material Safety Data Sheet

Ingredient: Benzyl Alcohol
CAS No.: 100-51-6
EINECS EC-No.: 202-859-94. First Aid Measures
Always seek medical attention after first aid measures are provided.
Inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.
Ingestion: Give large amounts of water to drink. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention.
Skin Contact: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.
Eye Contact: Check for and remove any contact lenses. Immediately flush eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes, keeping eyelids open. Cold water may be used. Get medical attention.5. Fire Fighting Measures
Fire: Flash point: 93C (199F)
Auto ignition temperature: 436C (817F). Combustible. High heat or direct flame is necessary to cause ignition.
Explosion: Above the flash point, explosive vapor-air mixtures may be formed.
Fire Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical, foam or carbon dioxide. Do not use a solid stream of water, since the stream will scatter and spread the fire. Water spray may be used to keep fire exposed containers cool.
Special Information: In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full face piece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.6. Accidental Release Measures
Small Spill: Dilute with water and mop up, or absorb with an inert dry material and place in an appropriate waste disposal container. Finish cleaning by spreading water on the contaminated surface and dispose of according to local and regional authority requirements.
Large Spill: Benzyl Alcohol is Combustible material. Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition. Stop leak if without risk. Soak up with inert absorbent material and dispose of as hazardous waste. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Finish cleaning by spreading water on the contaminated surface and allow to evacuate through the sanitary system.7. Handling and Storage
Protect against physical damage. Outside or detached storage is preferred. Inside storage should be in a standard flammable liquids storage room or cabinet. Separate from oxidizing materials. Storage and use areas should be No Smoking areas. Containers of Benzyl Alcohol may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (vapors, liquid); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.
8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Airborne Exposure Limits: AIHA Workplace Environmental Exposure Level (WEEL):10 ppm, 8-hour, TWA
Ventilation System: A system of local and/or general exhaust is recommended to keep employee exposures as low as possible. Local exhaust ventilation is generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the contaminant at its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general work area. Please refer to the ACGIH document, Industrial Ventilation, A Manual of Recommended Practices, most recent edition, for details.
Personal Respirators (NIOSH Approved): For conditions of use where exposure to the substance is apparent and engineering controls are not feasible, consult an industrial hygienist. For emergencies, or instances where the exposure levels are not known, use a full-face piece positive-pressure, air-supplied respirator. WARNING: Air purifying respirators do not protect workers in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.
Skin Protection: Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.
Eye Protection: Use chemical safety goggles and/or a full face shield where splashing is possible. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.9. Physical and Chemical Properties
